ReplyDelete1. “The first phase of HAARP construction was the Ionospheric Research Instrument (IRI), the high-power radio frequency transmitter that you can readily see in any photograph of the Gakona installation” (117). I searched HAARP in Google for my presentation, and these IRIs were the first and most common thing to pop up.
2. “First, [the interferometer] sends out plasma orbs as target marker beacons - what people mistake for alien presences or ball lightning” (118). I find it interesting that chemtrails, something some people call a conspiracy theory, is also linked with aliens, another conspiracy theory.
3. “Weather modification is possible by, for example, altering upper atmosphere wind patterns by constructing one or more plumes of atmospheric particles which will act as a lens or focusing device” (118). I liked this image and explanation as I feel it gave me a better sense of how components of the upper atmosphere can be manipulated.
Question: How can we use imagery like these to educate others?

ReplyDelete1. "This World Resources International flow chart shows the typical sources and activities across the US economy that produce greenhouse gas emissions" (Freeland, 122). It's interesting to see this chart because it's very different from typical CO2 emission diagrams I usually see.
2. "The "positive spin" of Geoengineering. This illustration shows the basic concepts of altering the atmosphere to create new weather patterns" (Freeland, 123). I personally believe that this is not really a positive aspect of geoengineering because it shows the process of putting CO2 down into the earth, which doesn't seem realistic.
3. "The lesions can appear anywhere in a patient's body and quite often contain fiber-like strands or fibrous material" (Freeland, 128). When I read about this in the chapter I was shocked to find out that there are people that believe that they are infected when they really are not. It was an interesting portion to read, but it seemed a bit over dramatic.
Q: Do these illustrations help the case of geoengineering?
Delete1. The Arctic Circle map within the illustrated section illuminates, “the perfect latitude for Radio Frequency Radiation experiments” (Freeland, 115). This map shows the extent that theses waves can travel naturally and illuminate the vast nature of these frequencies.
ReplyDelete2. The ionospheric mirrors that are constructed during, “The first phase of HARP” (Freeland, 117), is shown within the illustrated section. Photographs of, “the Gokona instillation” (Freeland 117) are rarely found due to the secrecy surrounding HARP construction by the United States government and military.
3. The “basic” geoengineering model shown on page 123 exemplifies concerns about future technology here on earth. The graphic features behaviors such as: “Chemicals to save the ozone, cloud seeding, aerosol in the atmosphere, iron fertilization of sea, pumping liquid CO2 into deep sea, and genetically modified crops” (Freeland, 123). These behaviors are not natural and/or good for the health of the Earth.
Question: How can we stop these destructive behaviors (invested in by our gov) if they are kept secret for so long? Ways of combatting this?

This image shows the HAARP Array in Gakona Alaska. It’s stated that they requested an increase in HAARP funding in 1994.
2. “How can it be that the trails laid out like crossword puzzles or strange circular forms spreading out into an overarching pale haze are the contrails and fumes of normal jet traffic?” (Freeland, 121). This picture displays the crossed-lines of chemtrails left in the sky.
3. “The SBX is a combination of the worlds largest phased array X-band radar aboard a mobile, ocean-going semi submersible oil platform” (Freeland, 126). This photo was taken in the Seattle Harbor, a major sea trade port.
Question: What do facilities and operations like the HAARP Array in Alaska or the SBX in Seattle do?

“Weather modification is possible by, for example, altering upper atmosphere wind patterns by constructing one or more plumes of atmospheric particles which will act as a lens or focusing device” (Freeland, 118). This was an interesting image and I was grateful for the visual representation.
"The lesions can appear anywhere in a patient's body and quite often contain fiber-like strands or fibrous material" (Freeland, 128). This image was disgusting and as Lily stated in her response, I felt as though this portion was a little dramatic.
